After today's qualifying session, Marlboro Team Penske driver Gil de Ferran was taken to the CART Medical Unit after complaining of an upset stomach.

"Gil has a mild case of gastrointeritis and dehydration. He came in this afternoon so we could do a fluid replacement. He is expected to be fine for tomorrow's race."
--Dr. Steve Olvey, Director of Medical Affairs, CART

"I've been really happy with the Marlboro car all weekend. I would have liked to have gotten the pole, but considering the circumstances I think we had a good run."

Gil de Ferran, Marlboro Team Penske, #1 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
Qualified third - 1:15.551 min.

"We made major gains from this morning's practice session and picked up over two-and-a-half seconds during qualifying. I thought we could do even better but on my last, fast lap I got caught in traffic and wasn't able to improve my time even further. The Marlboro car is handling well and the driveability of the Honda engine is very good. I think we've got a good set-up for the race and we're starting fourth which is a position we can definitely win from we just need to be patient and wait for the right moment."

Helio Castroneves, Marlboro Team Penske, #3 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
Qualified fourth - 1:15.580 min.
