MONTEREY, California - Paul Tracy, Dario Franchitti, and the entire Team KOOL Green crew roll into California for this Sunday's Bridgestone Grand Prix of Monterey on a wave of momentum fueled by last weekend's win in Milwaukee. After four races in the CART FedEx Championship Series, TKG holds two of the top three spots in the standings.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA-LOLA-BRIDGESTONE:
(Started 5th / Finished 18th at Laguna Seca in 2001; currently 3rd in the standings with 32 points)
"It's great to be heading into Laguna in third place in the standings. Team KOOL Green has been a powerful force to be reckoned with lately and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do as we switch back to road racing. Finding the right set up for this course is challenging, but I know that we're up for it. We're all extremely motivated: We've proven that we have what it takes to be successful this season and I know that my whole crew is ready to deal with whatever comes our way. I always race to win, but a third victory here would be great (Paul won in 1993 & 1994). We've had a demanding few weeks and we're now in a stretch of back-to-back races. It takes great teamwork to be successful during this crunch time and nobody's better than our team."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA-LOLA-BRIDGESTONE
(Started 22nd / Finished 19th at Laguna Seca in 2001; currently 2nd in the standings with 35 points)
"I can't say that I'm disappointed to be getting back onto a road course. With such a close race going on for the championship right now, this race is very important. A victory would put Team KOOL Green right back on top of the standings and that's where we want to be. There's no question that Laguna Seca is a tough course to race on and you've got to have everything come together at the right time in order to win here. I know that everyone has been working hard to give me the best race car they can and I'm confident that we can come away with the results we want this weekend."
BARRY GREEN - Team Owner
"We've certainly had a good start to the season and to be heading into Laguna second and third in the championship is a great accomplishment. Both Paul and Dario have had some good results and strong runs so far, but we've been very focused on oval racing and now it's time to put our road racing hats back on. Our road course tests with the new Lola have gone well, and I'm confident Team KOOL Green will be just as competitive at Laguna as we have been on the ovals. There is every reason to think we have the ability to regain the points lead this weekend."
Team KOOL Green driver Dario Franchitti marks his 100th career Champ Car start at this weekend's race at Laguna Seca. Now in his sixth season in the CART FedEx Championship Series, the Scotsman has amassed an impressive statistical profile that includes 7 victories, 55 top-twelve finishes, 27 podium appearances, 10,267 race laps completed (673 of which he led) and 22 front row starts.
Not one to be outdone, TKG's Paul Tracy moved up a notch of his own following last weekend's impressive win at The Milwaukee Mile. Tracy added another 184 laps led to his own stats, bringing his career CART total to 2,636, twelve more that Emerson Fittipaldi and good enough for sixth place in the CART record books. Tracy now chases after Mario Andretti who led 3,064 laps during his outstanding career in Champ Car racing.
Last weekend's win in Milwaukee also netted $24,000 for TKG's partnership with the 100 Black Men of America. The team donated $14,000 for the six pit stops that were completed by both Tracy and Franchitti in under 12 seconds and padded the total with a $10,000 bonus for Tracy's victory. The money will be used to support the 100's efforts to increase access to technology in urban communities.
