Potenza Race Tires Supplied: Bridgestone delivered nearly 1,000 tires for use this weekend. All were produced at the Bridgestone/Firestone Technical Center in Akron, Ohio.
* Dry-condition ("slick") tires: Each car receives seven sets for use throughout practice, qualifying and the race. The tire specification in use this weekend is the Bridgestone road course version with the most grip. It was used earlier this year at the CART Sneak Preview at Laguna Seca, as well as the season-opening race in Monterrey, Mexico.
* Wet-condition ("rain") tires: Each car is permitted up to four new sets of rain tires supplied by Bridgestone Motorsport this weekend. In addition, under a new CART rule, teams may bring up to two additional sets of rain tires per car that they received at a previous event but used little or not at all. Since Bridgestone is utilizing a single wet-tire spec at all 2002 road/street races, the tires can be carried over to another event without a performance change. CART's decision permitting teams to carry the additional rain sets assures drivers a sufficient number should wet conditions persist over a race weekend.
The Official Tire of CART: Bridgestone joins the FedEx Championship Series in 2002 as the Official Tire of CART and, as such, will supply all teams with Bridgestone Potenza racing radials. While it is Bridgestone's first year in this series, the tire manufacturer boasts an enviable racing heritage spanning four decades.
