Team Kool Green heads to Milwaukee with points lead and new look.
MILWAUKEE - Team KOOL Green driver Dario Franchitti carries the series points lead and a brand new look into this weekend's Miller Lite 250, while teammate Paul Tracy chases his third win on the historic Milwaukee Mile. Round four of the 2002 CART FedEx Championship also marks the second of six events at which TKG will raise funds for the 100 Black Men of America's urban technology program. (See TKG Notebook below).
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA-LOLA-BRIDGESTONE
(Started 4th / Finished 24th at Milwaukee in 2001; currently 15th in the standings with 11 points)
"I always look forward to running at The Milwaukee Mile. This track has a lot of history and I have run pretty well here. I've won a couple of times (1995 & 1999) and I've led a bunch of laps too. (Paul has led 347 laps at The Mile since 1993.) We will have a Lola chassis again and I really liked what Team KOOL Green was able to do with it in Japan. We were quick right out of the box and we should be just as good here. It's been an exciting month of May and we've got a lot to be proud of. I'm planning on giving every bit I can at this race and with a little bit of luck we'll be celebrating in victory circle where we belong."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA-LOLA-BRIDGESTONE
(Started 11th / Finished 9th at Milwaukee in 2001; currently 1st in the standings with 34 points)
"It's nice to be leading the championship at this stage of the season but it would really be special if I could earn my first oval win at The Milwaukee Mile for Team KOOL Green. The Lola was great in the tests at Mid-Ohio two weeks ago and I'm certain that I'll adapt well to it on the Milwaukee oval and under race conditions. It certainly worked well for Paul at Motegi. The month of May has been very busy for Team KOOL Green, what with preparing for Indy and continuing our testing program for the CART championship. It will be good to get back to a fairly normal schedule again."
BARRY GREEN - TEAM OWNER
"I can't say enough about the effort put forth by everyone at Team KOOL Green over the past couple of months. Between preparing Paul and Dario for their run at Indy and switching our CART program over to the Lola chassis, the crew has not had a lot of down time. Everyone knows we have an opportunity to win races this year and they've stayed focused on their tasks. It would be a great payoff for them if Paul or Dario were to get a win this weekend in Milwaukee."
TKG unveiled its new look in Indianapolis last Friday. Gone is the familiar green/gold/white. Dario Franchitti will be driving the new blue and silver KOOL Milds car for the remainder of the season, while Paul Tracy's car now features the KOOL Filter King green and silver paint scheme.
This weekend's Miller Lite 250 marks the second race this season Team KOOL Green will raise funds for the 100 Black Men of America. TKG donated $14,000 to the organization after both Dario and Paul completed three pit stops each at Long Beach in less than 12 seconds. The funds are used by the 100 to connect young adults (over the age of 21) in urban centers with new information and communication tools including access to the Internet, new computer technology, and skills training. Also up for grabs this weekend are an additional $10,000 for a race win and $20,000 should Paul and Dario deliver a 1-2 finish. This year, the second for the TKG / 100 partnership, the program will run at six events: Long Beach, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Chicago, Miami and Fontana. TKG donated $74,470.31 to the 100 in 2001.
