Milwaukee: Moore Quickest In Saturday Morning Practice

Milwaukee, WI (May 30, 1998) -- Greg Moore, who won his first FedEx Championship Series race here a year ago, was the fastest in Saturday morning's practice session as CART's 28 Champ Car drivers prepared for the Miller Lite 200 at Wisconsin State Fair Park.

Moore, in the Player's Indeck Reynard Mercedes, paced a closely bunched field during the practice session, turning a lap at 183.141 miles per hour, 20.286 seconds. Twenty five drivers were within one second of Moore's quickest lap.

Second-fastest Saturday morning was points leader Alex Zanardi, who holds a 2-point edge over Moore in the PPG Cup race, who clocked in at 20.399 seconds, 182.127 mph in the Target Reynard Honda. Third went to Scotsman Dario Franchitti who ran a 20.506, 181.176 mph while fourth was Michael Andretti, who was quickest during Friday practice and recorded a two-tenths of a second improvement Saturday to 20.548, 180.806 mph. Fifth was Patrick Carpentier, who won the pole at Nazareth a month ago, after recording a 20.660 second lap, 180.700 mph.
