Honda-powered drivers Adrian Fernandez and Paul Tracy claimed the top two places today in qualifying for Sunday's Miller Lite 250 CART FedEx Championship Series race. Three other Honda drives - Shinji Nakano in the second Fernandez Racing entry, along withTony Kanaan and Dario Franchitti - also qualified in the top ten today.

Owner/driver Fernandez has been the man to beat all weekend here at the Milwaukee Mile, the oldest continuously operated race track in the U.S. He was able to recover from a slide on his first timed lap and then set his pole speed run on his second and final timed lap. Meanwhile, Tracy made a last minute "shot in the dark" shock absorber change that improved his car enough to just miss upsetting Fernandez by less than three-hundredths of a second.

Today's qualifying activities were televised live on Speed Channel's, while Sunday's 250-lap race will be the first of seven broadcast live this season on the CBS television network, starting at 12:30 p.m. EDT.

Adrian Fernandez (#51 Tecate/Telmex/Quaker State Fernandez Racing Honda) pole qualifier, second pole of the season for both Fernandez and Honda: "The car stepped out on me on my first (timed) lap. I don't know why, but the cars always seem to go loose (oversteer) in the afternoons here. The car was dancing all the way through turns three and four on my second lap, but I was determined to keep up my momentum and determined to hang on to the car to get a good time. It was a matter of pride because we've been fast here all weekend and I wanted the pole! The car went very, very wide on the exit but we got the time we needed."
