Tracy becomes Bridgestone's newest CART winner.
Paul Tracy and Team Kool Green wouldn't let the disappointment of not winning the Indianapolis 500 last week deter them in the Miller Lite 250. For the second straight Sunday, Tracy put together a sensational race-day effort and was rewarded with the FedEx Championship Series victory.
It is the 19th career CART win for Tracy but first on Bridgestone Potenza tires. Bridgestone entered CART this season as the official tire of the series, and supplies all competitors.
Starting second, Tracy took the lead heading into the first turn and controlled most of the 250-lap event. He led 184 laps and beat pole sitter Adrian Fernandez to the checkered flag by 0.638 of a second.
Tracy said today's triumph "gets the monkey off my back" for the disputed result of a week ago. "My crew gave me a great car today," he added. "They made it easy for me."
Barry Green, Tracy's car owner, lauded his team for giving its driver such excellent race cars on consecutive weekends, and for the consistent performance of the Bridgestone tires that helped steer Tracy to victory lane today.
"It's a huge test of a team what they have done the last two weeks, and it shows what a great team we have," Green said. "The Bridgestone tire performance was awesome. There was not one complaint about the tires from Paul, not one comment from Paul, which is what you like."
Quote from Joe Barbieri, Bridgestone Motorsport Project Supervisor: "From the cheers he received all weekend, the fans at Milwaukee certainly got what they wanted in Paul Tracy's victory. Bridgestone is pleased to be a part of that popular result, as Team Green gave credit to the consistent Potenza tires for playing a role. The tire performance was superb up and down the pit lane today. CART's new pit interval rules don't always allow the Bridgestone tires to fully display their long-lasting characteristics, but we'll still take satisfaction in knowing our teams are aware just how good the tires are that are at their disposal this season."
Race temperatures ranged from 69 to 78 degrees track and 60 to 67 degrees ambient (F).
