Bridgestone Grip Helps Hunter-Reay to Flag-to-Flag Victory
Ryan Hunter-Reay completed a masterfully dominant weekend by leading all 250 laps tonight to collect his second career Champ Car win. Starting from the pole position he earned Friday, Hunter-Reay was never challenged, lapping all but the second- and third-place finishers at least once.
Afterward, the 23-year-old American praised the performance of his Bridgestone Potenza tires for aiding in such a thorough triumph. "The Bridgestones were excellent all race long," said Hunter-Reay, who drove the #4 Herdez Competition Ford/Lola on Bridgestone tires to victory lane. "They were so consistent, I couldn't ask anymore from them. ... The tires were great, the car was great, it was the best car I've ever driven."
Even runner-up Patrick Carpentier, in the #7 Indeck/Forsythe Championship Racing Ford/Lola on Bridgestone tires, conceded he could not keep up with Hunter-Reay. But Carpentier was just as happy with the durability and consistency displayed by his Potenza racing radials. "Our car was a little bit loose so we took some front wing out at the end and it was well-balanced," Carpentier said, "but the tires stayed the same all night. So it was good."
Bridgestone is in its third year as the Official Tire of the Champ Car World Series, and is enjoying its second season as Presenting Sponsor of the series. In addition, Bridgestone/Firestone is serving this year as the Official Tire for every event at The Milwaukee Mile.
Quote from Joe Barbieri, Project Supervisor, Bridgestone Motorsport: "Congratulations to Ryan and the Herdez team for such a dominating performance, especially considering the short time they've been working together. We feel proud to be a part of their success, as witnessed by Ryan's comments. The Bridgestone tires not only performed well during the warmer practice sessions, but also this evening when temperatures cooled off. Ryan and several other drivers showed their confidence in the tires by running high or low whenever they needed to tonight. We're glad they rely so confidently on the Potenzas and pleased to be able to showcase the tires' abilities on this great and historic mile oval."
