(Milwaukee, Wi) – The sixth round of the FedEx Championship Series has been postponed at the Milwaukee Mile in Wisconsin and will be run tomorrow at 10am.
Continual drizzling rain caused CART officials to officially postpone the Miller Lite 225 at 5.30pm today – the third event to be delayed due to weather this season.
The second round of the Dayton Indy Lights Championship has also been postponed.
Champ Car teams had the chance to do a handful of observation laps early in the afternoon, but they were done at moderate speed with safety vehicles still lapping the one mile oval in an effort to dry it off.
Mauricio Gugelmin will start eighth in the Miller Lite 225 in his #17 Nextel PacWest Mercedes-Benz while Mark Blundell will start 18th in his Motorola PacWest Mercedes.
Blundell was probably the only driver to “benefit” from today’s postponement with him still recovering from bruising to his back and neck received in an accident at Nazareth last weekend. The Englishman is still stiff and sore despite treatment every day this week and will be “one day fresher” tomorrow.
Scott Dixon will start from pole in his #17 Invensys/Powerware Lights entry in the Dayton Indy Lights race while his teammate, Tony Renna, will start fourth in the #18 Motorola PacWest Lights car.
Juan Montoya will start from pole in tomorrow’s CART event and will be followed by Dario Franchitti, Patrick Carpentier, Gil de Ferran and Christian Fittipaldi.
MARK BLUNDELL - # 18 MOTOROLA PACWEST MERCEDES-BENZ – Starts 17th
“The one thing this has done is give me another day of rest for my neck and back,” said Blundell.
“I have been pretty sore all weekend, but having virtually a free day today should help me when we finally get on the track tomorrow.
“I know many of the fans have to work tomorrow, but hopefully we can still get a reasonable crowd tomorrow and put on a terrific race.”
MAURICIO GUGELMIN - # 17 NEXTEL PACWEST MERCEDES-BENZ – Starts 8th
“The rain has just been annoying all day,” said Gugelmin.
“In some ways we would have been better off having heavy rain so we knew exactly where we stood.
“While saying that we have to give ourselves every chance of putting on a show for the fans who have sat out here all day.”
