INDIANAPOLIS (June 27, 2003) -- Motorsports fans will get a sneak preview of CART's 750hp turbocharged racing machines at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the form of a two-day test June 30-31 before the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford hits town for the 22nd running of the Champ Car Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio August 8-10. The first day of testing next Monday is open to the public.
The two-day event will see representatives from all every Champ Car squad at the 2.258-mile permanent road course and will feature a number serious contenders for the prestigious Vanderbilt Cup, including the Player's/Forsythe Racing duo of current points leader Paul Tracy (#3 Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) and defending Mid-Ohio champion Patrick Carpentier (#32 Player's/Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone), last week's Portland winner owner/driver Adrian Fernandez (#51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) and 2003 racewinner Michel Jourdain Jr. (#9 Gigante Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) of Hilliard, Ohio based Team Rahal.
By making a $5.00 donation to the Association of Hole In The Wall Camps, the Official Charity of CART, fans can catch all 13 Champ Car teams in action Monday by entering the facility beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Gate 3. Mid-Ohio All-Access Season Pass holders receive free admission to the day's events by presenting their season pass at the gate.
"Mid-Ohio is excited to make this event open to the public," said TrueSports, Inc President Michelle Trueman Gajoch. "This is an excellent opportunity for our loyal Champ Car fans to get energized about the upcoming race, and Mid-Ohio is pleased to donate the proceeds to a very worthy cause."
The test will also serve as the final tune-up before the series moves to the North Coast for the Round 9 U.S. Bank Presents The Cleveland Grand Prix at Burke Lakefront Airport July 3-5, where they will run under the glow of 21 Musco lighting towers in the largest temporary outdoor lighting project in history.
