Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports driver Michel Jourdain Jr. gave a good performance during the Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix after starting from the 20th spot, he managed to regain positions coming up to 15th, but he experienced some problems that did not allow him to complete the race, hitting the wall to finish in 18th position.
Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "The car was great, definitely the best that I've ever had. It was very consistent all the time. When I spun, I think I was faster than Tony (Kanaan) and Jimmy (Vasser). Unfortunately, it was not easy to overtake with the new wings. It was almost impossible. When I spun, I wanted to regain the lap, there are people who think that Paul Tracy hit me, but I don't think so. He was just very close and I lost the car a little bit when I was trying to pass him. I lost two or three laps after this, but the car was still well until something happened, the rear tires locked up. I couldn't do anything. I lost the car and I hit the wall."
Joe Ward, Team Manager, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "Today was a hard day for a lot of people in Nazareth and unfortunately, it was a difficult day for Bettenhausen Motorsports too. Early in the race we ran very well. Our qualifying position was not good and that put us in jeopardy one lap down early, but it put us back during a pit stop. Although he was running lap times in the top ten we had to come in for a late pit stop. Later in the race, we had a problem in the car and Michel (Jourdain Jr.) ended up against the wall."
