CHAMPCAR/CART: Miami: Walker Racing Saturday report

Rodolfo Lavin (R), #5 Corona Competition Team Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone

"The Corona car was definitely improved for this afternoon's qualifying session. Yesterday we went into a dry qualifying session after it had rained all morning, but today we had a very productive morning in similar weather conditions. I had a much better sense of the track this afternoon about how hard I could push the car, where the braking zones were and how much that bump (in the last corner) would upset the rear of the car. It's going to be a challenging race tomorrow starting from 16th, but we've seen a lot of contact over the weekend. With a clean race and quick stops from my Corona crew, hopefully we can get into a points-paying position."

Darren Manning, (R), #15 RAC Walker Racing Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone

Manning lost third gear just 13 minutes into the morning practice session. The RAC Walker Racing crew with sportsbook.com sponsorship did a fantastic job of making the necessary repairs and returning Manning to action. Unfortunately the red flag waved just as the #15 car was moved onto pit lane. With 15 minutes remaining in the session, Manning was able to get in a couple of practice runs before the checkered flag flew.

"From my point of view that was really the first and only time that I've driven it flat out. The car was pretty good in the wet yesterday as evidenced by our second fastest speed. Every time in the dry though, we've had problem. I clipped the wall in qualifying yesterday and only got two laps. This morning we had a problem with the gearbox. It's quite a fun little track to drive and if they can keep working on the bump in the last corner, it'd be perfect. I'm very excited about the possibility of rain tomorrow especially since we didn't qualify to our best potential. There was a lot more speed to come. Plus, being English, I'd really be pleased to have a wet race."
