TAGLIANI FASTEST FORD DURING PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING - Team Player's driver Alex Tagliani posted the fifth-fastest lap during provisional qualifying for the Grand Prix Americas in Miami, Florida, lapping the 1.387-mile temporary street course in 92.304 seconds. Tony Kanaan claimed provisional pole position with his lap of 91.264 seconds, followed by Scott Dixon (91.444 seconds) and Tora Takagi (92.039 seconds).
ALEX TAGLIANI (#33 Player's/Indeck Ford) - Provisionally Qualified 5th - "It's kind of difficult to try and pass anyone. I don't see a lot of passing happening here, (and) it's going to be very difficult because it's so narrow. But on the other hand, hopefully it'll be a good crowd here tomorrow and Sunday and if the event is a success then next year CART and the promoters said they'd change the layout for the better. I'm really glad that CART could make this race happen this year and I'm looking forward to the race\."
JIMMY VASSER (#8 Shell Ford) - Provisionally Qualified 12th - "We're struggling with the handling of the car right now. I think the track is proving to be difficult grip-wise, but it's a fun layout. We're going to go to work tonight and make some changes for tomorrow. We made some changes between practice and qualifying ... I think in practice we were a little bit behind but we made some progress in qualifying after making some big changes. There's a lot of areas that we have to address so we'll see what we can shake out of the transporter tonight."
MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR. (#9 Gigante Ford) - Provisionally Qualified 15th - "We made some changes for the qualifying and the car wasn't a lot better from this morning and we have a long ways to go. We had some antenna problems with the radio and I didn't know how many laps I had left and I couldn't hear my guys in the pit and it would've been good to have put in a few more laps during the first run. Then on the last run I couldn't get a clear lap because of traffic all the time and then they red-flagged the session."
PATRICK CARPENTIER (#32 Player's/Indeck Ford) - Provisionally Qualified 17th - "It's a really tight track and whomever gets a lap goes ahead. But we were two seconds faster this morning and this afternoon we just couldn't get a break. There were red flags every time we started to put a lap in or somebody came out of the pits in front of us and we couldn't even do one lap so we're at the back." HOW DOES THE CAR FEEL? "I didn't have enough time to do enough laps to feel the car so I have no idea. We'll see tomorrow."
