Double top ten for Mi-Jack Conquest Racing in Mexico
(Mexico City, Mexico) 6 November 05: Mi-Jack Conquest Racing ended the 2005 Champ Car World Series season in strong form as rookie Andrew Ranger moved up to tenth in the season championship results after finishing ninth in Sundays Grand Premio Telmex-Tacate presented by Banamex, as teammate Nelson Philippe took the best result of his young Champ Car career with a seventh place finish in Mexico City, Mexico.
The result is Philippes fourth top ten of the season, and moved the Frenchman to thirteenth in the 2005 Champ Car World Series drivers championship, as the result also contributed to France winning the Champ Car Nations Cup over Canada.
"This was the best race of my Champ Car career", said Philippe. "The guys did a fantastic job for me all weekend like they have all season, and I am very excited to give them a good result and to run so well in front of the Mexican fans. I was confident about the race because the car was good all weekend, and we had a good balance so I was able to keep a good pace all the way through to the end. It is satisfying to close out the year on a high like this, and I am already looking forward to next season."
Ranger finished as runner-up in the 2005 Roshfrans Rookie of the Year standings with 140 points for the season.
"I am so happy to get another top-ten finish to move up into the top ten in championship points for the season", said Ranger. "Yesterdays qualifying was a disappointment, but we really improved for the race. Thanks to the team and the excellent job they have done all season. The car was really good today and I was able to make up a lot of positions during the race. We had a good strategy with our tires and it worked in our favor, so I am very happy to get a good result again in Mexico to end the season in the top ten in points."
"This was a good way to finish the season for the team because it confirms the forward progress we have been making this year with our engineering and mechanical programs, as well as how Nelson and Andrew have continued to improve throughout the year, said Bachelart. Nelson drove a strong race today and Andrew was able to make up several positions as well and its good for the team to have both cars finish well with no problems."
:Nelson and Andrew both did great jobs today and it was good way to finish the season, said Mi-Jack Conquest co-owner Mike Lanigan. We are already working towards next season, and are excited about continuing to develop as a team. We will be growing with the Atlantics effort next year, and are looking forward as well to the Champ Car Series return to Houston in 2006."
