"For the beginning half of the race, we were running a set-up with not enough downforce, and it obviously hurt us because we went a lap down. We decided to make an adjustment to add more downforce(lap 155), and the Marlboro car was like night and day, handling much better. But unfortunately, we were already a lap down so we did a great job of hanging in there and bringing it home in the points -- keeping us within striking distance to the leader which is great."

-- Helio Castroneves, Marlboro Team Penske, #3 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
-- Eighth place finish, one lap down
-- Third in the CART FedEx championship point standings with 75 points (six points out of second and nine points out of first)

"We were having an okay race -- not fantastic, but we were trying to hang in there and put some points on the board. We had a good first pit stop (lap 36) and my second stint was the best of the day. The Marlboro car was a little loose in traffic so we tried to put more understeer in it during my second pit stop (lap 75). It was really hot in the car and something was burning my left foot. I don't know the cause, but it was abnormally hot even for a day like today. Ultimately, on lap 98, I suddenly lost power as I was coming out of turn four, which ended our day. It appeared to be an electrical problem but we're going to take a closer look to define exactly what happened."

-- Gil de Ferran, Marlboro Team Penske, #1 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
-- Placed 24th , completed 97 of 250 laps
-- Sixth in the CART FedEx championship point standings with 58 points
