Marlboro Team Penske is looking forward to this weekend's Molson Indy Toronto as the Team has scored two of their three wins on road courses this season. Both Gil de Ferran and Helio Castroneves have notched a road course victory in 2000 and are excited to race through the downtown streets of Toronto.
De Ferran, Toronto's defending polesitter, has impressive results on road courses in the 2000 season. He has earned one victory in Portland and started on the front row in three of his four road course starts including the pole in Long Beach. De Ferran has also finished in the top-ten three times on road courses this season.
Marlboro Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves has faired well on road courses in 2000 as well. He has finished on the podium in two of his four starts this season, including his first CART victory at Detroit and a second place finish in Long Beach and also captured the pole in Portland (his first career road course pole). In addition, Castroneves has earned points in three of his four road course appearances this season.
Thus far in the season, Marlboro Team Penske has led 164 of the 378 laps run on road courses and scored 76 points to earn a total of three podium finishes, two poles and four front row starts.
MARLBORO TEAM PENSKE BEGINS TO PREPARE FOR UPCOMING OVALS
Once the Molson Indy Toronto is over, the CART FedEx Championship Series will return to oval racing for the next two engagements. The first race will be the Michigan 500 on the 2-mile superspeedway in Brooklyn, MI (July 23). The race will feature the Handford MK1, the superspeedway rear-wing aerodynamic package.
After the Michigan 500, the CART FedEx Championship series will head to Chicago Motor Speedway for the Target Grand Prix on July 30.
DRIVE AWAY HUNGER PROGRAM IN TORONTO
Each weekend the Drive Away Hunger Program donates food left over from the teams' hospitality units. This weekend the Drive Away Hunger Program headed up by Marlboro Team Penske and Newman Haas Racing will benefit Second Harvest; a perishable food rescue program that distributes food daily to agencies around the city. In 1999, they gathered and distributed over 3 million pounds of food. For more information, please contact Katherine Bennett at 310-274-7800.
