Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix Of Detroit

"What a day! Everything went perfect -- like a watch. It was a dream come true to come back to where I had my first win and repeat the victory. This is my town! I knew that when we got the pole yesterday we would be able to win this race if we just stayed calm and focused. It's not always the fastest car that wins, it's the most consistent and everything went our way today. My Marlboro Team Penske crew did fantastic pit stops and Firestone did a great job with the tires -- we only changed tires once during the race. Our goal this weekend was to try to get as many points as possible and pick up some of the ground that we lost in Milwaukee and we did it. Now we'll go to Portland just five points behind Kenny (Brack) and there is a lot of racing still to go."
Helio Castroneves, Marlboro Team Penske, #3 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
-- Castroneves is second in the point standings with 69 points.
-- Castroneves has scored points in ten of the last 11 CART FedEx Championship Series races.
"I had a good start and the Marlboro car was very consistent -- we really had a top-three car today. Unfortunately, on lap 55 we got hit with a mysterious electrical hesitation. I was troubleshooting in the cockpit by hitting every button I could find when all of the sudden it kicked in, but I had already lost five spots (de Ferran dropped from third to eighth). We were able to recover and finish sixth which moved us up in the championship point standings (de Ferran moved from seventh to fifth in the standings). Now we need to focus on Portland and continue to add to our points total."
Gil de Ferran, Marlboro Team Penske, #1 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
-- De Ferran is fifth in the point standings with 44 points.
-- De Ferran has scored points in nine of the last 12 CART FedEx Championship Series races.
