MOTEGI, Japan -- Luiz Garcia Jr., making his second appearance at the Twin Ring Motegi, recorded a fast time of 27.935 seconds (199.621 m.p.h.) during practice for the Firestone Firehawk 500 Thursday.

It was the first time the Brazilian had driven his 2000 Hollywood-Embratel-Tang-Reynard/Mercedes-Benz on a true oval.

Garcia, 28, of Aventura, Fla., admitted he had a problem finding the right set up, however a 30 plus minute yellow flag for track conditions did not help his cause. Garcia said the Project Racing Group would work on the set up immediately.

In other P.R.G. news, Garcia is currently leading the Anheuser-Busch Budweiser Hard Charger Award with 34 points. The award, presented by Budweiser, goes to the driver with the greatest improvement in positions for the entire season and features a $10,000 cash prize.

"I was expecting to go a little faster, but couldn't find the right set up. I'm not comfortable with the car yet, but we'll work on that and everything will get better." -- Luiz Garcia Jr., Driver
