LONG BEACH, Calif. - Sigma Autosport driver Max Papis put in a good day's work despite a small spin during qualifying and a lack of seat time.

Papis' quickest time of qualifying was 70.751 seconds - 100.137 mph. Papis would have had a faster time, however he spun and came to a stop in the tire wall outside of Turn 8. The car suffered no serious damage with some scrapes on the left front wing being the only blemish.

It was the first time that Papis was behind the wheel of his #22 Sigma Autosport Lola-Ford/Cosworth since the Telmex/Tecate Grand Prix of Monterrey last month.

Final qualifying for the Grand Prix of Long Beach begins at 1:45 p.m.

"All day has been difficult because we didn't have a full practice session in the morning. I tried doing everything I could during qualifying. I lost a little bit of rear end on the car in the braking zone when I went straight into the tire barrier. Later on we tried to put together a good lap, but unfortunately we didn't have enough track time towards the end. We did learn a lot of valuable information for tomorrow." - Max Papis, Sigma Autosport Driver
