CHAMPCAR/CART: Long Beach: Saturday quoteboard

Sebastien Bourdais ...

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I think the whole McDonald's team made a great effort and it showed in the performance. The car was great, not really much to complain about. I think the Bridgestone tires were exactly the way we wanted them to be. We had great grip, and the pressures came up very quickly. When we pitted after the first run, it was like, boy, we've got 5/10ths on the field. It's a tough call. You want to look good for the race, so you are always tempted to try to save tires. In the meantime, you are a hero if it works and you are a dumb-ass if it doesn't. It's a little difficult. It was a little intense for five minutes in the pits, but it all worked out great."

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It's been a very tough weekend so far. I'd like to thank my crew. They've worked very hard to turn the car around and make it stronger and faster. Quite pleased for them that we've managed to sneak onto the front row. From here, hopefully we can have a good race. We want to make sure we get on the podium on the first event and start the season off well. That's a great way to kick off this season, especially now that we've got CDW on board. We're pretty pumped up for this first one. I think we can have a good result"

Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "It was a good lap. I was even faster when the red were on. This morning my car was really good. For sure the Bridgestone tires gave me a lot of grip, but the car changed a little bit the balance from the regular tire, especially in the first outing. Second outing, I think I could improve a little bit with the reds on. I don't think I had anything for Sebastien today. Yesterday I was pretty close of him, but today I was a couple of 10ths slower. So the car did not handle as well. But still I'm quite happy to start my first race back. It's very important to start up front here in Long Beach, a street course, as everybody knows. I'm feeling pretty good for the race. All the Newman/Haas cars are pretty consistent, up front, at the top every session. Anyway, even my car didn't handle perfect, but the car is really good. I think when they put in the race setup, the car will be quite competitive.

Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "Well this qualifying session definitely did not go as planned. At the beginning of the session the car was fast and we were able to run in the top three. We waited until the last minute to go out for our second stint to make sure we could put a lap in when the track was at its best. I was pushing really hard and unfortunately I touched the wall before I could put a fast lap in. It's very disappointing because I think we could've been on the front row, but we have a good car for the race tomorrow and I'm sure that we'll be fighting for the victory."

Mario Dominguez #7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "The car was much better, we split our qualifying runs into three stints and managed to put in a very fast lap during our second stint. I could've been faster but I never managed to get a clear lap during our last stint because of traffic. Every time I had a good run going I would catch a slower car and mess up my lap. Even though qualifying went well, for me it's a very sad day because my grandmother, Josefina Fernandez de Teresa, passed away yesterday. Tomorrow I'm going to race for her, in her honor, and I know that she will be with me every lap."

Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream/Bell Micro - PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "The #6 Gulfstream/Bell Micro -- PKV Racing team definitely wanted to be better in final qualifying. This morning the car felt great during the first run in practice, but we just didn't get any better as the track changed. I am still fitting some issues with the car, which is making driving it a little harder. The car is faster than it was yesterday, but I really felt that we should have qualified in the top-six. Overall, I think we should have qualified higher, but I can definitely race and be competitive from the fourth row."

Antonio Pizzonia #8 Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Overall, I am happy with how things are going so far. I have been improving myself and we have made positive improvements on the car all weekend. It has been a big challenge for me to learn and get used to not only the #8 Rotax/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone Champ Car, but the track as well. We should have been better than 11th, but hopefully we can have a good, clean race tomorrow and improve overall."

Jimmy Vasser #12 Gulfstream/Bell Micro -- PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I am just out here having fun. Anytime I can get a chance to drive a Champ Car it is fun. Sometimes, when I am are not running good it is frustrating and it is not any fun, but I am looking forward to racing in Long Beach one more time and would really like to have a good performance tomorrow."

Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I'm quite frustrated because we have been trying to get the setup right for the car and when we finally got it right, it was the last lap and a few cars caused a red flag at the hairpin. But that's motor racing. We have to accept that and keep working away for tomorrow. It's a long race! I'd like to thank the team for all their hard work over the weekend."

Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "Unfortunately, we weren't able to accomplish the results we were going for. There was too much traffic and I couldn't get a good lap in. The car needs some more work. I experienced a lot of understeer again today in final qualifying. We have more work to do on the car but I know the team will do a great job for tomorrow's race. I know that I have the ability to be at the front."

Katherine Legge #20 Optium -- PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "Obviously, I am disappointed. It is a learning process for me, but the Optium -- PKV Racing team has been very supportive. Jimmy (Vasser) and Oriol (Servia) have also been great teaching me the things I need to know. At this point I just have to continue to work hard and keep learning. I am looking forward to continuing that process in tomorrow's race."
