Long Beach (April 5, 1998) -- Alex Zanardi charged from a lap down, making a spectacular pass for the lead with just two laps to go Sunday to win his second consecutive Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

For Zanardi, who started 11th in the Target Reynard Honda, it was reminiscent of his 1997 charge from 22nd position to the victory at Cleveland, which ignited his run to the PPG Cup championship a year ago.

Scotsman Dario Franchitti, in the KOOL Reynard Honda, was second, just 2.917 seconds behind and polesitter Herta, in the Shell Reyanrd Ford, was third after battling tires that were going away late in the race.

The point standings after three rounds of the FedEx Championship Series, find Adrian Fernandez, who was fourth Sunday, in the lead with 41 and Greg Moore (sixth Sunday) in second with 37. Zanardi is third with 34.

Sunday's race saw a number of incidents in the early going that created caution periods. One of the most spectacular came when Paul Tracy became airborne after touching tires with Christian Fittipaldi on lap 20 of the 105-lap race.

The FedEx Championship Series takes a breather the next two weeks before returning to action April 26 at Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania for the Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix Presented by Toyota.
