Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports driver Michel Jourdain Jr., after starting from the 22nd position in the Long Beach Grand Prix, reached 11th place to achieve his first points of the season in his second race of the year.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "We had some problems today. In the slow corners the throttle was getting stuck in low revs and the rear tires were wearing out. That's why Dario (Franchitti) overtook me and also, that's the reason why I hit him (when the throttle got stuck). I brushed the wall, my front wing was a little bit bent, and I had a punctured tire. That forced us to pit. At that point the car developed a lot of understeer, but the most important thing is that we managed to finish the race within the points. I feel very proud of my team."

Tom Brown, Managing Director/Chief Engineer, Herdez/Bettenhausen: "I am very pleased of getting our first points. It was a good battle, Michel (Jourdain Jr.) was very aggressive, and he is getting more and more confident. He had a good battle out there and the engine is much improved over Nazareth. We are looking forward to good things as the year goes on."
