EARLIER REPORT: With only 7 laps to go, another full course yellow brought out by Takagi as he once again lost control and went into a tire wall. His day might be done. Walker Racing's luck today at Long Beach was not a "Happy Birthday!"

EARLIER REPORT: Full course yellow was brought out by Rookie Scott Dixon (PacWest Racing) who lost control when he went wide and ended up in a tire wall.
In a separate incident, Patrick Carpentier (Team Player's) and Max Papis (Team Rahal). Carpentier lost control and went airborne causing his front end to land on the rear wing of Papis's Lola. Papis had to replace the rear wing during the pit stops. Carpentier continued with the damage to his Reynard until he suddenly stopped and rolled out of his car. Carpentier was seen holding his left wrist. Possible injury to left arm/wrist is unknown at this time. UPDATE: Fracture of left wrist according to the CART doctor.
During the caution, Gugelmin ended up in the tire wall. Question as to the reason since he has rear end damage and his nose went into the wall. Update as to the punt later. Gugelmin's day has ended.
The top 3: Castroneves, da Matta and Gil de Ferran (Team Penske)
EARLIER REPORT: During the full course yellow pit stops, Kenny Brack (Team Rahal) stalled leaving pit lane on lap 31. Yellow was out due to the accident between Rookie Tora Takagi (Walker Racing) and Mo Gugelmin (PacWest Racing). Takagi tried to overtake the position from Gugelmin when he turned into the PacWest Reynard. Both were able to continue as contact was minor.
Brack is out of the race. Fittipaldi's problems continue.

Top 10 have a very close race with Michael Jourdain, Jr (Herdez Bettenhausen) staying with the pack in 6th position battling Tony Kanaan (Mo Nunn Racing).
EARLIER REPORT: Long Beach - Michael Andretti (Team Kool Green) out early due to probable mechanical problem.
