CHAMPCAR/CART: Long Beach Herdez Bettenhausen Friday practice report

Michel Jourdain Jr. Car ...

Michel Jourdain Jr.
Car #16 Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Firestone
Time: 1 minute, 8.918 seconds
Speed: 102.800 mph (lap 30 of 41, afternoon session)
Position: 15th

Overall, it was a pretty good day. In this morning's first session, we started with different set-ups on the two cars. After we ran both of the cars, we made a decision to go with the 16X as our primary and continued to work on it for the rest of the day. The only problem we had this morning was with a pop-off valve but we fixed that quickly so it didn't cost us much time out from of the session.

This afternoon, we tried a few different things with the set-up on the car and we are pretty happy with the progress we made. We are still working on getting the car to work a little bit better in the rear and I think we have a good chance at getting that right tomorrow and qualifying in a better position.

Fast Fact

* The Grand Prix of Long Beach holds a special place in the mind and heart of Michel Jourdain, Jr., as it was his first CART event in 1996. At that race, Jourdain made history by becoming the youngest driver ever to start a Champ Car event at 19 years, six months and two days old.
