CHAMP CAR DRIVER PROVISIONAL BRIDGESTONE POLE QUALIFYING LONG BEACH GRAND PRIX-

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "The track may have been as good as it's ever been here and the Bridgestone Potenzas worked very well for me today. I've never been fast in the first session in Long Beach so this is a new thing for us. We may be able to get into the 1:06 range tomorrow if we keep improving."

Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "It feels great to be back here and to have found some speed on the first day. The changes to Turn One made the corner a lot faster but it may have taken a passing opportunity away because the braking zone is a bit shorter now. But the track is good and I really love racing here."

Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "I was pushing really hard, we went out on the Bridgestone option tire and they came in really quickly for me and the car felt good. It just slipped a little on me and I hit the wall. I'm an old guy, I am pushing hard to keep up with these young guys!"

Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream/Bell Micro - PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "It was an okay day for my first day as an employee of PKV Racing. The #6 Gulfstream/Bell Micro -- PKV Racing car was much better than it showed on the time sheets. On the first set of tires I was .5 of a second up until the last corner when I locked the rears. The car as actually very good...I did like the car a lot. I think we have a position six car, so we just have to do a little bit of work. I didn't do my best today, but we will do it tomorrow. Besides, the second day of qualifying on a street circuit is always almost a second faster if it doesn't rain. We know we have potential to be faster, we just have to keep working."

Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I am very pleased and happy to come here and to show everyone that I have the ability. The car was quick and it's great to start the season in the top ten. Tomorrow is going to be quicker so we need to be quicker. But the car and the team are showing that we have the pace for the season."

Mario Dominguez #7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "Well unfortunately I couldn't complete my last lap because of the red flag so that cost us a few positions. We've been struggling with the balance of the car, we made some changes which made the car a little better, but we still have to work on it for tomorrow. It's great to be back on track and finally get the season started, and what better place to do it than here in Long Beach!"

Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "The word for the day is understeer. Every single corner we have understeer. I prefer the car to be a bit loose on a street circuit but unfortunately we didn't have that anywhere today. On the other hand, we just made a dramatic change to the car but didn't get to test it as the red and checker flew on my out lap. Therefore, I think we might have a few aces in our back pockets for tomorrow because we'll spend plenty of time debriefing and we've also got our Bridgestone red tires to use tomorrow."

Jimmy Vasser #12 Gulfstream/Bell Micro -- PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I just made a mistake on the out lap on my second stint. I slotted into a spot and I was trying to push the #12 Gulfsteam/Bell Micro -- PKV Racing car to hard on my out lap on cold tires. The car just locked in front. It really happened in slow motion. I tried to bail out of it to because I knew I wasn't going to make the corner in turn eight and just cooked the tires. Overall, the car felt good, but it wasn't terribly fast, so we definitely have some work to do around here."

Antonio Pizzonia #8 Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "Today was a good first day. Considering that this is the first time that I have driven at this venue, I am happy with the progress that was made in terms of learning the track and feeling more comfortable in the #8 Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone Champ Car. We should have done better today because there is definitely more to come from me and the car, but unfortunately I did not have a chance to get in a good run this afternoon during provisional qualifying because of traffic. We made some changes to the car to improve the balance, but I think that we are going to go back to where we started and try something different for tomorrow. Overall, I am happy, things are coming together and the Rocketsports team is doing a really good job."

Katherine Legge #20 Optium -- PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "It was good to get the first qualifying session of the season underway. Obviously, the Optium -- PKV Racing team has a little bit of work to do. The car was good and the team did a really great job. The time is with me right now. I just have to figure a few things out. I made some rookie mistakes today, but I just have to learn from them. I am looking forward to getting back out on the track tomorrow and as long as we improve then everyone will be happy."

Andrew Ranger #27 Tide/Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: - "It was a hard day for the Mi-Jack Conquest team. We tried a lot of different things on the car and we had difficulty finding a good balance. It was only my third day in the car so I'm still getting the rust out but we will continue working hard and do better tomorrow."

Charles Zwolsman #34 Tide/Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: - "We got caught up at the end, which is too bad because we were on a fast lap that was about a half second quicker that what I had done. We made some improvements on the car since this morning, but we still have work to do to be in the top-10."
