FORSYTHE CHAMP CAR TEAM READY FOR GREEN FLAG
LONG BEACH, California -- April 4, 2006 -- It is a traditional springtime gathering of like-minded people; a time when tens of thousands of racing fans celebrate the end of a long cold winter by migrating to the warm streets of Southern California for an icon of motorsport - the original "Three Day Festival of Speed" -- the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, back for its 32nd consecutive year. This week the Forsythe Champ Car squad of four-time Long Beach winner Paul Tracy and his quick teammate Mario Dominguez arrived in the city as the team focuses on the task at hand; winning the championship and reclaiming the oldest trophy in North American racing - the Vanderbilt Cup.
PAUL TRACY -- #3 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola
"I am very excited about the 2006 season. My only focus is to win the championship. Testing has been good, the team has worked hard and we have a very good car for this year. Off-season has been busy and productive for me; I've driven a lot and have prepared myself well. It will be a tough season; competition is at its peak. I'm ready for the challenge and I like starting the season here in Long Beach where I've found the winning combination before."
Tracy is a four-time Long Beach champion -- 1993, 2000, 2003 and 2004. He qualified on pole in 2005 and finished second in the race.
MARIO DOMINGUEZ -- #7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola
"I'm ready to go! It's so much different than last year. It's great to get some testing in during the off-season as opposed to jumping in the car the Friday of the first race like last season. The atmosphere around the team is very positive, communication has been great and I'm very confident that we'll improve tremendously this year. I'm prepared and ready to fight race after race. My goal is to be very consistent and to win races!"
Dominguez joined Forsythe Championship Racing last year just before the start of the season and had no preseason testing with the team. At the 2005 Long Beach race, Dominguez drove the #7 INDECK Champ Car for the first time in Friday morning practice and made a statement by posting the fourth quickest time. He went on to qualify third and finished fifth in the race.
PHIL LEPAN, FORYTHE CHAMP CAR TEAM MANAGER
"We are making every effort to be as competitive as possible. We've done many things over the winter that will help the engineers have a better understanding of the car by using some new and unexplored engineering items. Our goal is to win races and win the championship, and we're very confident that both cars will be strong contenders. We have a saying around here -- "Expect to Win"!
The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach revs up on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8 with the first practice rounds taking place and the first points of the season awarded as the drivers battle for Provisional Pole on Friday and Final Pole on Saturday. On Sunday April 9, the first green flag of the season waves at 1pm PT (4pm ET) with the race televised live on NBC in the United States. You can also tune in to Race Director, available through the Champ Car website, for live coverage of the race and many practice and qualifying sessions with multiple channels of live video, audio, timing, telemetry and commentary.
