MEXICO CITY, Mexico -- March 31st, 2005 -- Forsythe Championship Racing is pleased to announce the signing of Mario Dominguez of Mexico City to race with the Team in the 2005 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford. Dominguez will drive the #7 Indeck Lola-Ford (Bridgestone) beginning with the 31st annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 8-10.
As 2003 Series champions, Forsythe Racing is regarded as one of the most competitive and professional teams in Champ Car and has a long history of success in identifying talented race drivers and for its driver development programmes. By consistently providing the equipment, the environment, the engineering resources and the mentorship to the drivers, Forsythe has enjoyed numerous pole positions, podium finishes and race wins, as well as 'most improved driver' awards. Forsythe drivers over the years have included Teo Fabi, Jacques Villeneuve, Greg Moore, Rodolfo Lavin, Patrick Carpentier - and 2003 Champ Car champion Paul Tracy who in the #3 Indeck Lola-Ford (Bridgestone) will team Dominguez in Forsythe's challenge to regain the Championship in 2005.
"I am very excited to be joining the Forsythe team since over the past years they have shown the commitment and level of excellence needed to win races and championships at this level," said Mario Dominguez. "They always seem to put top quality cars on the track and my goal is to bring the Vanderbilt Cup to my home country of Mexico. When we arrive in my hometown of Mexico City for the last race of the season (November 6th) I expect to be battling for the championship and it should be fantastic!"
Neil Micklewright, Vice President of Operations: "Forsythe Championship Racing is proud to have Mario as a new member of our organization. We spotted his natural talent in 1994 with his wins in Mexico City and Monterrey in the Mexican Formula 3 Nissan Championship, and have followed his career with interest since then. He has demonstrated speed and tremendous race craft over the past seasons in Champ Car, and on numerous occasions has shown a unique ability to make clean, aggressive passes where others fear to tread. We are all excited about Mario's obvious talent and we anticipate some great results from him and his new Forsythe crew during 2005."
Jerry Forsythe, Team Owner: "It's great to have Mario Dominguez joining our racing team. In my opinion he is the best Mexican racing driver in North America; he has natural talent, great determination and he has developed a good deal of experience over the past two years in the Series. I expect him to mesh very well with our group and to be a contender for the Championship this year alongside his experienced team mate, 2003 Champion Paul Tracy. Between Mario and Paul I'm expect us to be in contention at every race and on course to regain our position as the championship team of this highly competitive Champ Car racing series. And with the relationships we've developed in Mexico over the past few seasons thanks to our involvement in the two incredibly successful Gran Premio events at Monterrey and Mexico City, we expect Mario's presence to further enhance Champ Car's reputation as the American based premier international racing Series for the world's top open wheel drivers and to generate even greater support among the Mexican and Hispanic population of North America and around world."
Dominguez was born on December 1st, 1975 and is a longtime resident of Mexico City. His Champ Car career includes two wins and 28 top ten finishes over three seasons.
