MI-JACK CONQUEST RACING FEELING CONFIDENT HEADING TO LONG BEACH
Indianapolis, Indiana, Thursday, April 6, 2006 -- The Champ Car World Series kicks off its 2006 season this weekend in Long Beach, California where Mi-Jack Conquest Racing will be amongst the teams looking for a strong finish on the 1.968 mile temporary street course with returning driver Andrew Ranger and rookie Charles Zwolsman.
MJCR is looking forward to a strong start in Long Beach to begin its fourth year of competition in Champ Car. The team has been hard at work since the 2005 season finale in Mexico City. Having announced that Canadian Andrew Ranger would be back with them in Long Beach, and after signing last season's Atlantic Champion, Dutchman Charles Zwolsman, team co-owner Eric Bachelart knows that the much anticipated results are not too far away.
"We are extremely motivated heading to California. The team did a great job preparing everything for this season and I know that Charles and Andrew will work well together to make MJCR a winning team," stated Bachelart. "They can surprise a lot of people and be successful in Long Beach. I have plenty of confidence in this pair of incredibly talented drivers."
Returning to drive the #27 Tide/Mi-Jack car, Andrew Ranger participated in some motorcycle ice racing events over the course of the cold Quebec winter and is more than ready to be in the heat of the battle at Long Beach.
"It has been five long months since my last race, so I am very anxious to get to Long Beach and get back into the car under racing conditions. We had a good test last week in Fontana which helped me regain my racing form," said Ranger. "I'm really confident we can get good results here, I know the car better, I know the track and I know the team. Conquest Racing has also worked hard during the off-season to develop the car and make it faster; everything is in place to succeed."
Newcomer to the team, Charles Zwolsman, knows that a little more knowledge of his #34 Lola/Ford car will only make him better, but that does not stop him from setting some specific goals for himself.
"I'm really excited about competing in my first race with Mi-Jack Conquest Racing. There is still a lot that I have to learn about the car and the team but I feel that MJCR represents the best opportunity for me to gain that valuable experience. I had a good race here last year in Atlantics and I am hoping to have the same kind of performance in a Champ car and start recording points toward the rookie of the year title."
Zwolsman and teammate Ranger will be on track Friday morning for a 75 minute practice session which will be followed in the afternoon by their first qualifying session. The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach takes place April 9 and will be televised live on NBC at 4:00 p.m. ET.
