Figge Finishes Eighth in Champ Car Debut, Dalziel Persists for 11th Despite Mechanical Gremlins
Pacific Coast Motorsports wrote a new chapter in their history books this weekend with their very successful Champ Car debut this weekend at the Vegas Grand Prix. The team began the weekend with the goal of both cars finishing, but drivers Alex Figge and Ryan Dalziel have raised the bar for PCM, Figge finished eighth in his very first Champ Car race while Dalziel brought his car home in 11th despite a mid-race pause for repair.
Alex Figge #29 Imperial Capital Bank/DP01/Cosworth/Bridgestone
Alex on the race: "I feel great and am happy to have my first race under my belt. It was an interesting way to get into the top-ten but I'll take it and I was glad to be there at the end and get the points. I lost some gears about half way through the race and I think I was in every run-off at some point. You start to get used to the problem where you can almost predict when it is going to happen and you just run with it but it sure makes it tough to get into a rhythm. My goal was to finish my first Champ Car race and I did that, to finish eighth in the Imperial Capital Bank car was great and I am happy this one is in the books and we can continue our progress. This was a terrific event, certainly a weekend I will never forget!"
Ryan Dalziel #28 Ironclad/DP01/Cosworth/Bridgestone
Ryan on the race: "Finishing 11th is a bit of a tough pill to swallow because the Ironclad car was running really strong before our gearbox problem. I had a lot of confidence in the car, it was good fun. It was a good decision to get back out there after they fixed the car because with everything that happened today we were able to get an extra two positions out of it and the championship points can be crucial. So I have mixed emotions, we had a top five car today, but our goal of course was to finish our first race and the team did that on both sides today so were happy for that."
Tyler Tadevic, Team Director:
"What a great finish, we are so pleased. The crew did a great job. At the start of the race Alex had some rookie issues, he though he had made some mistakes but come to find out he had some problems with his gearbox which made his race a challenge but he persevered to finish eighth and be the most improved on the grid which is one heck of a run for his rookie race. Our strategy was perfect with Ryan and he was running very strong. Had we not had the problem with his gearbox we feel he could have finished in the top five. Ryan's crew managed to fix the car and get him back out on track to pick up a few more places, they did a great job. If you had told me heading into our first Champ Car race that we would finish eighth and 11th, I would not have believed it. I am very, very pleased.
