CHAMPCAR/CART: Las Vegas: Friday qualifying quoteboard

Paul Tracy ...

Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I feel great. I just got to thank the whole team at Forsythe Racing, all the sponsors involved with Bridgestone, and all my personal sponsors. Just a great day for everybody. We worked really hard over the winter. Kind of had to work extra hard this last week when the team decided to take on a second car. There was some feelings within probably other teams that that was going to kind of upset our flow for the weekend. But, you know, the team has done a great job. We've brought in a bunch of guys for this weekend that are new with Mario. Everybody's pitched in and done a great job. I can't be more happy for the team and for Gerry Forsythe and everybody, all my fans that are out here. "

Simon Pagenaud #15 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Well, it feels really great to be here today. Obviously we have done a great job with the team to make the car great for this weekend. You know, it's really, really good to be here because I couldn't believe that I would be in the top three qualifier for the Friday on my first race of Champ Car. So it's kind of a relief because it means that I'm already on the pace. I still need to work a lot on myself and the car, too. I think we have a pretty good shot for a good place overall, even at this race. So we just need to keep focused, try to understand what we did today, which was a very good run. We put the reds on because we thought we had a shot at the pole. Unfortunately, Paul did a better job than we did. But obviously tomorrow I think we'll be right on the pace again. We are looking for the first or the second row for tomorrow."

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Well, it's pretty much in line with the way testing went. We just keep piling on problem after problem. So it's hard. I mean, the McDonald's team is doing a great job, but it seems out of our hands. Between the gearbox department and engine department, we just can't seem to get things reliable. It's really troublesome because obviously if you can't do more than 15 laps without doing problems, entering a race is going to be kind of a little bit of a problem. But other than that, when we are on track, we are pretty quick I think. Only doing one run, being on blacks, the car behaved really well. There's really nothing to say about it. It's just we're going to need to be able to do more laps than this without coming into the pits and opening the rear deck."

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I am pretty happy overall with today. The #9 CDW/RSPORTS car is feeling quite good. The morning went well for us as we finished the practice in the third spot. However, the afternoon did not go according to plan. While everyone else changed to the Option Bridgestone tires, we stayed on the standards. But I think we are in reasonable shape. We will keep working hard in hopes of earning the pole position tomorrow. I do not think that we are too far away, we just have to work out the last bits."

Alex Tagliani #8 Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I am very happy with the RSPORTS team. They have given me a great car. On the Black Bridgestone tires things were going well. I was running a tenth behind PT (Paul Tracy) in second during our first stint in qualifying. For the second run, we put on the Reds (Option Bridgestone tire) so that we could shot for the pole. But I ended up running in to a lot of traffic and I was not able to get in a good lap time. However, the #8 LNX2/RSPORTS car is definitely quick and I am very happy with it. It is great to open the season with such a positive run and being competitive. It is going to be a tough season because the competition is fierce, but I definitely think that we have a shot at being a top competitor this season."

Robert Doornbos #14 Muermans/Jumbo Supermarkten/Media Mall Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"The session this morning came as a bit of a shock. It is a great circuit here in Las Vegas, but the car was not quite as competitive as we would have liked. Mike (Cannon) and I worked together over lunch, and right from the start this afternoon, we were up there on the charts. Having improved our car today, we are looking much stronger for tomorrow, and obviously have a lot to play for. We are aiming to improve on today's result."

Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Unfortunately we had a bad day today. This morning we had brake issues which really set us back. Then in pre-qualifying a tow issue developed. When we went out to qualify we brushed the wall and bent the rear tow link and did not have time to get back out. It was one of those days where nothing goes smoothly. I felt bad for the guys, because they worked so hard and I promise I will get them a better result tomorrow."

Tristan Gommendy #22 Pay By Touch-Megaspiera Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"This was my first qualification in a Champ Car. It is a new car, new championship, everything is new. But, I think the Pay By Touch MegaSpirea PKV Racing Team did a good job. My engineer Yves (Touron) and the entire team did a good job preparing car. I learned a lot today. The biggest thing for me is the circuit is really bumpy. Here in America it isn't really bumpy, but in Europe it is never bumpy like this. So, again, a lot of things are new, but I think we have a good set up now and I think we can do a very job tomorrow."

Neel Jani #21 Red Bull-Gulfstream Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"This morning was not too bad. Obviously, this afternoon did not meet the expectations of the Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing Team. We are just going to have to sit down, review the data and find a solution for tomorrow."

Dan Clarke #4 Ticketmaster/Synapse Power/The Australian Pink Floyd Show Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Trying out a new car for the first time at a race weekend is probably not ideal, but as I've been with the team over the winter and attended the tests, it hasn't felt too strange. I don't think we lost out too much, particularly as Robert has been doing the winter testing and it didn't take me long to get comfortable with the car. In these circumstances I think a top-10 start is as good as we could expect, and gives us a fair starting point to work from. Although I'd like to have taken my time to get used to the car and the track, I needed to be giving as much feedback as possible to my engineers as quickly as possible. The Minardi Team USA boys have definitely made my job today as easy as it could be, with plenty of preparation work; it's been a fairly smooth transition to the new car for me. The Vegas track is quite cool. It's surprisingly fast for a street circuit, and not too bumpy. The surface is quite smooth, but I think it'll give more grip as the weekend progresses. It's a bit of a mix with the fast sections and the fun parts including the tunnels. I reckon it'll make a good event and an important fixture on the Champ Car calendar."

Mario Dominguez #7 Telmex/Cabi Developers Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Well it was a difficult day, we didn't achieve the results that we were looking for. During the morning session we made some good progress but just never had the chance to get a clear lap because of all the red flags. During the 10 minute practice before qualifying we weren't able to do any laps because of a sensor problem which really put us behind. This is a brand new circuit and every single lap counts so missing that practice really hurt us. But we are going go over the data tonight and figure things out, I have no doubt that tomorrow we'll be much stronger."

Katherine Legge #11 Dale Coyne Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I was disappointed with a thirteenth place run today. I was blocked by Tagliani which cost me the tenth position. The car is good, so tomorrow is going to be a better day."

Graham Rahal #2 Medi | Zone Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"It was a session of problems for the Medi | Zone team. At the end of the session I thought I had two good laps left then we had a shifting problem. I couldn't shift up or down. We think we had an electrical problem that led to a shifting problem. Before that, the Medi | Zone car was acting really good and I was really pumped. I had a good out lap and I thought it was only going to get better but I went into Turn 1 and the shifting problem started. It's a good thing that there are two qualifying sessions because we should definitely be up there."

Matt Halliday #42 42 Below Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Obviously it was a rough day because we did not get much track time in during qualifying. Unfortunately we ran into a problem with the engine that they will fix tonight. We had a good start in practice this morning so I am sure tomorrow will be a lot smoother and we will be able to improve our position."

Bruno Junqueira #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I can't believe I got hit in the back by Gommendy that bent my wing which ended my day. We had a top three car today and I was disappointed for Dale. I am really looking forward to tomorrow."
