Hollister, CA native A.J. Allmendinger drove a hard qualifying session that saw the top eleven drivers separated by less than a second. Allmendinger's effort gives him the highest rookie qualification today and the best showing of the California natives. This marks A.J.'s eighth top-ten qualifying effort for the season, provisionally.

A.J. Allmendinger

"I'm fairly pleased with today's qualifying; not really with the position, because we shouldn't really be happy with a P-7, but with how much we improved from this morning's practice to this afternoon. We made huge gains with the car. I think everyone in front of me used the softer tire except Sebastien (Bourdais) and that seems to be the way to go. We've saved both sets for tomorrow and I know that my car has got a lot more to give, so I'm pretty psyched about tomorrow's qualifying."

Jeremy Dale, Team President

"A.J. had a good day, but P-7 is clearly not where we'd like to be. We were one of the few cars not to use the alternate, softer tire today and that definitely is the tire to use. We've saved both sets, so we have that in the bank for tomorrow and I think that will move us up the grid to be in a good position for Sunday."
