Tagliani 14th on the starting grid for the Champ Car World Series Grand Prix of Monterey.

Monterey, Calif. June 14, 2003 - Rocketsports driver Alex Tagliani will sit in 14th position on the starting grid for Sunday's Grand Prix of Monterey. Tagliani posted a lap time of 1:11.025 (113.436 mph, 182.557 km/h), which is uncharacteristically slow for the # 33 Johnson Controls Lola. Tagliani has qualified among the top five in four out of six races and took the pole at The Milwaukee Mile.

"We have had fairly good results at every event up until now and even posted a 1:10.435 (lap time in seconds) during the January open tests here at Laguna. We have not had great results this weekend, so this is disappointing," said Tagliani, who currently sits in tenth position in the 2003 Champ Car World Series standings, with 32 points.

Tagliani is working with engineers Adam Schaechter and Will Phillips to sort out the right shock combination for the 2.238 mile/3.602 km Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. "We're down on shocks and have poor valves," explained Tagliani. "We know what heights and springs to use, but we're struggling to get better grip. We'll look at our options and choose the best to help us gain some speed in tomorrow's race and hopefully move up the grid," concluded Tagliani.
