Tony Kanaan and the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing Mercedes-Benz Reynard set a fast lap of 1 minute, 7.714 seconds (an average of 120.046 mph) over the 2.258-mile Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, placing him 16th in first-day qualifying for Sunday’s Miller 200. Gil de Ferran is on the provisional pole with a track-record time of 1:05.347 (124.394 mph).
Practice resumes Saturday morning with final qualifying set for 1:45 p.m. EDT.
“It was a very frustrating way to start the weekend. We got in just 14 laps (in practice) this morning, and that wasn’t enough to get us ready for the qualifying session. We have some sort of problem we can’t quite put our finger on. That’s what makes it frustrating, because when you have a problem and know what it is, you can at least go back to the garage and fix it. We just couldn’t get any momentum going, either in practice or in qualifying. But tomorrow’s another day and that’s what’s good about these road courses. Fortunately, we have till tomorrow to locate the problem, deal with it, and hopefully move ourselves up in the order.”
