Mist, drizzle, and rain during today's race made conditions challenging for all of the drivers, impairing vision and making the track very slippery. The early stages of the race were marred by a succession of incidents, contact and slide-offs. In fact, the first lap completed under full song was the 16th!

By keeping his nose clean and avoiding errors made by others, Herdez Bettenhausen driver Michel Jourdain Jr. battled his way from his next to last row starting position into the top ten by the 23rd lap. However, two off-course excursions, the second assisted by Alex Tagliani, put Jourdain out of contention for championship points.

Note: The race was run as a two-hour "timed" event due to the extensive number of laps run under full course caution conditions. Ultimately, the drivers completed 76 of the scheduled 98 laps.

Michel Jourdain, Jr.

"We had a very good car for today's conditions. I passed some guys in the beginning - and just watched some others go off. But I made a big mistake with the first spin and stalled the car. The team made a good call keeping me out when I got bump-started and we were able to stay on the lead lap. But when Alex (Tagliani) bumped me around, it cost us a lot of track position. Even as the track got drier, the car was still very good but we just couldn't make up what we had lost."
