Michel Jourdain Jr. began his assault on the egg-shaped Twin Ring Motegi Super Speedway today under warm, sunny skies and increasing winds.

Time: 26.819 seconds

Speed: 207.793 mph/ 334.401 kph
Position: 18th overall

Michel Jourdain, Jr.:
"We are still working on the balance of the car - we are very, very close to getting it right. I think all of the drivers in the field are separated by less than a second right now so you can see how just one little problem makes for a big difference. The Firestone tires are very consistent and we are getting good grip levels from them. The trick is that we are looking for the best compromise between the corners that require aerodynamic grip (one and two) and the corners that need mechanical grip (three and four). The wind was very strong this afternoon so we will need to see how that affects us tomorrow."

Keith Wiggins - Managing Director
"We were struggling like everyone else with the conditions this afternoon. Unfortunately, the track was not as clean as it should have been at the start of the session so we had some difficulty with cuts on the tires. But it was the same for everyone - it's just unfortunate that we lost so much practice time. "
