Herdez-backed driver Michel Jourdain Jr. took the 19th position on the provisional qualifying session for the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey that will be held this Sunday in the Laguna Seca Raceway. His best lap time was a 1.0.027 and he was unable to improve his times, because his engine lost power.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "We improved a lot our performance from morning to the afternoon. We made a lot of changes for qualifying, but the car developed push at the beginning. Then, my crew made some adjustments and when we thought we were going to improve a lot our times with our second set of tires, we had a problem and were unable to continue"

Tom Brown, Chief Engineer, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "The car was very loose this morning, but we cured it for qualifying and the car was better. Unfortunately, on our second set if tires we lost power."
