Herdez-backed driver Michel Jourdain Jr. could not complete even the first lap of The Marconi Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by Firstar, after his car was hit. Damages in the undertray, right sidepod and mainly to the radiator did not allow him to continue running in the above race.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "I was hit in the rear of the car by (Takuya) Kurosawa)."

Joe Ward, Team Manager, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "Michel (Jourdain Jr.) had a clean start going into the Turn one. There was an accident ahead of him and when he tried to stay out of it, when he was hit by number 19 (Takuya) Kurosawa). It took us out of the race. The radiator dropped a lot of water and no repairs were available for."
