Herdez-backed driver Michel Jourdain Jr. provisionally qualified in the 13th spot for the Honda Indy 300 race. He remained within the top-twelve the entire qualifying session. But in the last lap he dropped to the 13th. His best lap was 1'34.282 at 106.722 Mph.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "From the beginning, the car has been performing well. But we still need to make more changes to improve it for the last session. I think we could improve our time, but towards the end we had a red flag. It happened the same with the second group. So, everybody was under the same conditions. As usually, I am very happy to come here. Australia is my favorite race on the schedule."

Keith Wiggins, General Manager, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "We are happy. The car basically was the same that we had in Vancouver. It's working well and we just try to get the driveability with the engine better. We'll make small changes for tomorrow. We are sorry that we missed the fastest group by one position and by one tenth of a second."
