Joel is quiet: "At the moment I prefer to wait"
Monaco, 25/03/2004 -- Joel Camathias waits: the Swiss driver Joel Camathias built many relationships after the early end of his "Champ Car" adventure last year, but after an attentive analysis he had taken the decision to postpone his return on the competitions.
"I have looked for an adequate arrangement after the past tormented season in the United States ? explains Joel ? but at the end I have preferred to take time, because I`m sure that the right opportunity will come up in the nearly future. It`s not a secret that I would like to continue in a single-seater Championship [and just for that he has made a couple of laps in a Nissan Formula] but I`m also open to other opportunities. In the past I did some mistakes on choosing the race programs and because of that I prefer to wait for a better opportunity: and I`m sure that it will come up".
So, is the "Champ Car" a close chapter?
"I really enjoy the time that I spend in the United States, although the well-known problem with the Team, and I will take immediatly a plane to go back in the United States, if there will be an honest and professional opportunity . Of course I worked hard and deeply to be present this year in the "Champ Car World Series", but the negotiations have been to long because of the changing within the organisation and a loss of guarantees due to a privatisation of a public company rated on the Wall Street Market. A situation that I had to add to the difficult job to look for a good arrangement, and I mean on the financial level. So, at the moment there is no chance to be present in the Series".
Did you take other contacts, exept for the "Champ Car"?
"Of course, I had important possibilities, either in single-seater or GT cars, but the negotiations have been start to late and there was not the guarantees required to do a good job. So, after the mistakes that I did in the past two seasons, I have decided ? like already said ? to wait for better opportunities: in this way I have already start negotiations to partecipate in single events [Indy 500 or the 24 hours of Le Mans] but absolutely fascinating".
What are your programs at the moment?
"I`m still focused on my daily work-out and I keep my serenity: moreover I`m working with an excellent personal trainer. In a short time I would like to begin studies of sport-management, a sector that always interested me".
