DETROIT (February 17, 2000) - Championship Auto Racing Teams announced today that visits to its website, www.cart.com, grew by an impressive 130 percent in 1999, when compared with totals from calendar 1998. The Nielsen I-PRO audit of visitors to the site for calendar 1999 showed that the CART website received over 7,900,000 visits, an enormous gain from the 1998 total of approximately 3,500,000. For December, 1999, the site had a total of over 440,000 visits, up from the December, 1998 total of nearly 197,000 visits. Much of the growth can be attributed to CART's partnership with Quokka Sports, the digital sports entertainment company (NASDAQ: QKKA), which launched the site in March of last year. "When we entered our agreement with Quokka Sports last spring, we did so with the idea of growing our website exponentially over the five-year term of the agreement," said Patrick Leahy, senior vice president of marketing for CART. "These numbers certainly tell us that we're headed in that direction. With Quokka's help, we have designed a site which offers a massive amount of information, presented in an innovative and entertaining manner, and keeps visitors wanting to come back." Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. (NYSE: MPH) owns, operates and markets the FedEx Championship Series, which, in 1999, was comprised of 20 races in five countries on four continents. Champions Juan Montoya, Michael Andretti and Jimmy Vasser are among the drivers who battle for the series title on oval circuits as well as temporary and permanent road courses. CART also owns and operates its top two development series -the Dayton Indy Lights Championship and the Toyota Atlantic Championship.
