- 36th career start in his second season of Champ Car competition - Currently 11th in the PPG Cup point standings with 68 points - Finished third at Houston last year after starting 11th, clinching 1998 CART Rookie of the Year honors - Claimed first career Champ Car win at Michigan Speedway this year - Claimed first career pole position at Long Beach this year - Career best road/street course finishes to date were third at Laguna and Houston in 1998 - Best road/street course finish this year was sixth at Elkhart Lake and Detroit - Has seven top-10 finishes to date this season -- Motegi (6th), Rio (5th), St. Louis (7th), Elkhart Lake (6th), Michigan (1st), Detroit (6th) and Vancouver (9th) - Finished ninth in the PPG Cup point standings last year - 1997 PPG-Firestone Indy Lights champion and 1996 runner-up

"I really like the street courses and have good memories from this track. I had a good race there last year in the rain, getting my second Champ Car career podium finish and clinching Rookie of the Year. I feel confident.

"Houston is a fun city. There is a great shopping mall close to our team hotel. I wouldn't recommend valet parking though. Last year, after an evening sponsor appearance at a downtown hotel, the valet attendant dropped my car keys down the elevator shaft."
