First Top Five

Having experienced several technical issues in the two first races of the season (engine breakdown in Las Vegas and gearbox malfunction in Long Beach), Simon Pagenaud matched his first objective by scoring a fifth place Sunday in the streets of Houston.

Once again however, he struggled against some new problems : first gear blocked in the qualifying sessions, radiators broken in the warm up, flat tyre in the beginning of the race. Forced to reconsider his strategy and reschedule his pitstops, the Frenchman managed to join up his competitors, step by step.

Thanks to his top speed on the track and after some overtaking, he finishes his first race and scores the points of the fifth position.

Simon Pagenaud :

"Without those several issues in the qualifying sessions, we could have reached the first row of the starting grid. In the first chicane of the race, I have been hit what forced me to pit in and change the rear flat tyre. We decided so to reschedule our pitstops, in relation to our competitors. I really gave my all thirty laps long, already ranking twelve.

"Eventually, I score a fifth place, what let me think that without the collision at the race start, I could have reached the podium, as I drove one of the fastest cars. So to say, it was the best one I had this season. I can truly be optimistic for the next race the 10th June in Portland."
