Justin looking forward to Houston night race
A month after Champ Car's season opener in Long Beach Justin is eager to go racing again. Saturday night's race is under the lights on a temporary street circuit around Houston's Reliant Park. The track takes in landmarks such as the Astrodome which, like many other facilities in Houston, provided refuge to thousands made homeless by Hurricane Katrina.
The break since Long Beach has gone quickly for Justin. His podium celebrations were short-lived - the following day he and RuSPORT travelled north to Portland, where they had a successful test ahead of June's race. Last week the team tested again, this time at the twisty and bumpy Sebring circuit in Florida, working on set-up for Houston and other street races this year. Justin also spent several days on the east coast of the United States meeting enthusiastic staff at sponsor CDW and signing hundreds of autographs.
"It's been a busy few weeks", agreed Justin. "The tests in Portland and Sebring were useful, and I'm looking forward to getting out there and quantifying what we've learned. We've done some simulation work on the track layout for Houston, so I have a bit of an idea what to expect. We'll walk the track to see what it's really like, understand the layout and get used to the scenery, but it will still be an interesting first day as we get our heads round it." Justin's sportscar experience means he's not fazed about racing at night, but he's well aware of the special challenges of racing under the lights. "At night everything seems so much quicker and it's really easy to find yourself significantly off the pace, so you need to concentrate even harder than usual."
