Adrian Fernandez "I thought we were having a good race but the bad luck struck again. I haven't seen the tape, but Shinji hit me and I think [Paul] Tracy hit him first. It's just unfortunate. What can I say? It's just been a very frustrating year.
"I thought we were having a good race but the bad luck struck again. I haven't seen the tape, but Shinji hit me and I think [Paul] Tracy hit him first. It's just unfortunate. What can I say? It's just been a very frustrating year. We've been running well and we just can't get a break. I'm ready to finish this year and start a new one."
John Ward, Chief Engineer/Race Engineer - Fernandez:
"If you look back on the weekend, I think we were doing a pretty good job up until qualifying. The way qualifying is nowadays, if you are not in the fast group it sort of seals your fate, especially at a track like this where you can't pass. We ended up in a long line at the back, trying to work a strategy that would get us out of that long line and get us to the front. The way the yellows happened, there was nothing we could do. Unfortunately we got hit in the rear and went a lap down. It was just a long, tough weekend."
"I had a pretty good car out there today. The first part of the race, I was trying to save fuel. Then Paul [Tracy] hit me and I hit Adrian because of this. On another restart, I tried to overtake harder and just couldn't make it. He [Bryan Herta] opened the door and I dove inside and we just came together. I got a puncture and had to come into the pits. The car was pretty good today. We just needed a little more luck."
Tom Anderson, Owner/Team Manager:
"It's one of those weekends where Fernandez Racing, both the #51 and #52 sides, did all the basics right. I think we had good setups when we came down here, and we were quick in all the practice sessions. We were at a disadvantage qualifying in the first group on Saturday, which put us back probably eight or nine places more than where we would have been if we all qualified in the same group. In the race, we were minding our own business and got hit in the back from another driver which shoved Shinji under Adrian. Trying to repair flat tires during the race and stay up with everyone else is a bit difficult, but I thought our guys did a good job. The pit stops were great. The new flow meters worked great. If we continue to do the basics right, then I've got to believe that we are going to be successful."
