A solid line of rain showers moved across Michigan International Speedway shortly after noon today, forcing CART FedEx Championship Series officials to cancel single-car qualifying after only seven drivers in the 26-car field had completed their runs.

As a result, times set in this morning's practice session were used to set the grid for tomorrow's 500-mile race, with Paul Tracy in fourth and fifth-placed Tony Kanaan leading the Honda-powered field. Shinji Nakano also posted a solid top-ten time, with defending series champion Gil de Ferran 11th.

Today's rain is expected to move out of south-central Michigan overnight, with tomorrow's 250-lap race scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., with live television coverage on ABC.

Paul Tracy (#26 Team KOOL Green Honda) Will start 4th tomorrow: "Starting from practice times makes me pretty happy, obviously, because we had a good run this morning. I've got a great race car, it's been great right off the trailer. It's very good in the draft and that's pretty important here. It's a long race tomorrow and you're not going to be able to drive away from anybody, so you want to be ready to attack with about 30 or 40 laps to go. It always seems to come down to two or three guys at the finish here, but you don't want to be leading (at the start of the last lap), for sure."
