MIAMI (March 18, 2000) -- Tropical music recording artist Frankie Negron will be a special guest during the March 24-26 Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami presented by Toyota at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Negron will sing the National Anthem on Sunday, prior to the 2 p.m. start of the opening race of the CART FedEx Championship Series season.

Negron recently released his third album, Lo que llevo por dentro, which was produced by some of the most important salsa producers of our time, including Angel Fernandez, Sergio George and Ramon Sanchez.

He broke into the music scene in 1997 with the release of Con amor se gana, which received a platinum disc award for the sale of more than 100,000 units. His first two singles, Inolvidable and Hoy me he vuelto a enamorar, both reached the No. 1 spot in Billboard's tropical music charts.

Negron's second album, No me Compares, which also went platinum and saw two tracks reach No. 1 on Billboard's tropical charts.

Negron also played a major role in the Broadway musical The Capeman, and starred in the 1998 independent film Boricua's Bond. He is known for captivating audiences with his style and charm, in addition to writing some of his own material.

On-track activities, including opening practice for the Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami presented by Toyota, begin on Friday, March 24. Qualifying is set for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Supporting events include a pair of Toyota Atlantic Championship races, and the Barber Dodge Pro Series.
