HERDEZ-VIVA MEXICO! TEAM PRESS RELEASE No. 99 MICHEL JORDAIN JR., CAR # 19 TUESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1998 LOLA/FORD-COSWORTH/FIRESTONE TESTING, HOMESTEAD
SUCCESFUL TESTING FOR JOURDAIN JR.
Mexican driver Michel Jourdain Jr. and the Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team had a successful two-day testing session at the 1.5-mile circuit of Homestead in Florida. At the same venue, also were testing Team KOOL/Green, Arciero-Wells, Patrick Racing, Target/Chip Ganassi and Tasman.
Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #19 Herdez-Viva Mexico! Team: "This Tuesday we completed 142 laps and we tested a lot of different things. I was able to improve my times and my best lap time was 26 seconds. The car has a lot of potential and I think we can be competitive during the 1999 FedEx Championship Series season, but we have to work harder. Which is good is that we started to test earlier (in November) than in previous seasons and no doubt that it is very helpful."
Ben Bowlby, Chief Designer, Lola Cars, Ltd.: "This was a very successful testing. We used a huge number of different things in the set up. We are happy because we learned how to work with the car with Firestone tires. Michel did a 26 second lap very comfortable, which was better than Michel's qualifying time last March on this track. We will do further testing on January and Andrew Burston from Lola will provide full technical support to this team during the season."
Dale Coyne, owner of the Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "This was a really good testing, we learned a lot and we were very competitive. We bettered Michel's best time on this track. I am very pleased with the Lola chassis."
