Michel Jourdain Jr. Ford-Cosworth/Lola, ...

"Overall, I am encouraged by the performance today. The car was very good all through the race. From my starting position of 24th, we had moved up to 18th by the time of the first pit stop. Unfortunately, we had a problem with the valve on the fueling rig in that stop because they had to disengage the probe and start again to get the fuel in the car. That cost us about eight seconds and dropped us to 22nd position. Before the second stop, the crew changed the valve and I had gotten back up to 12th position. After that, we knew we were just trying to run as hard as we could to the finish.
"When the last yellow came out, Adrian (Fernandez) was in front of me in 13th place and was trying to conserve fuel. After we went green I was having a look to see if I could get around him and was bumped in the back of the car by Nicolas Minassian, which pushed me up onto the curbing and around. It was too bad because not long after that Adrian ran out of fuel and didn't finish.
"The good thing is that we showed this weekend that we have a strong team, the Lola is a good car, and the Ford-Cosworth engine is very competitive. We have everything we need now to be competitive this season and 20 races in front of us. For sure, I am looking forward to Long Beach in three weeks because I feel that we will be very competitive there."
