The 500 presented by Toyota
Round 21 of the CART FedEx Championship
Sunday, November 4, 2001
California Speedway, Fontana, California
It was a frustrating day all-around the CART paddock today as early morning rain delayed the start of today's 500 presented by Toyota. The Herdez Bettenhausen team suffered an added blow when the primary car was diagnosed with boost problems in the pre-race warm up. Due to the delay in the start, the race was shortened to 220 laps from the scheduled 250 as the sun set over the west side of the California Speedway.
Michel Jourdain Jr. - Driver
"Obviously, it was a very bad day for us. We lost the primary car in the warm up and had to go to the back up car for the race. Then we had a fuel pressure problem with that car during the race. All the extra pit stops we had to make just killed our chances for today."
Keith Wiggins Managing Director
"It's a disappointing way to finish a season. We made quite a bit of progress as a team this year so it's a shame to finish on such a bad note. But we start testing for the next season in just a couple of weeks and we have some more changes planned for the team. Given all that, we expect to be back and even stronger next year."
