HAWK BRAKE NAMED TECHNICAL PARTNER, OFFICIAL SUPPLIER TO CART'S TEAM RAHAL

CLEVELAND - Hawk Brake, a division of Wellman Friction Products Co., has joined CART FedEx Championship Series competitors Team Rahal as a technical partner and official supplier.

A manufacturer of top-quality friction products, including disc brake and clutch materials for both automotive and racing applications, Hawk will sponsor the team for the remaining races making up the 1998 CART FedEx Championship Series, including this weekend's Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland. The association will continue indefinitely.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Hawk Brake to align itself with one of the world's top racing organizations," said Hawk Brake General Manager Carl Harbert. "The research, development and promotional opportunities that exist through our involvement with Team Rahal and the sport of Championship Car racing are outstanding. We're excited about our partnership."

"Hawk Brake does more than bolster our roster of top-flight technical partners," said three-time CART FedEx Championship Series champion and Team Rahal co-owner Bobby Rahal. "Through aggressive product development and their active involvement in our testing program, they are helping make our team more competitive."

Hilliard, Ohio-based Team Rahal, which enjoys primary sponsorship from Miller Brewing Company and Shell Oil Products Company, is headed by Rahal and partner David Letterman. Driver Bryan Herta teams with Rahal in the second of the team's two Reynard/Ford-Cosworth Championship Cars.

Headquartered in Medina, Ohio, Hawk Brake and Wellman Friction Products manufacture severe-duty friction materials and powdered metal structural parts for the aerospace, automotive, truck, motorcycle, military and agricultural markets. Wellman Friction Products is one of six companies currently owned by Cleveland-based Hawk Corporation. -30-
